R.M. Palmer Company is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day chocolate manufacturing operations at our facility. This role ensures efficient and reliable production processes, equipment functionality, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and evaluate production output, efficiency, and line performance.
• Collaborate with the Plant Manager to review and refine standard operating procedures.
• Partner with Shift Superintendents and Production Supervisors to identify and address process improvement opportunities.
• Lead regular cross-functional meetings to resolve facility issues and optimize operations.
• Analyze equipment performance and recommend replacements or modifications to improve productivity.
• Actively participate in production implementation initiatives, integrating engineering and operations perspectives.
• Oversee companywide inventory levels to ensure production readiness and minimize downtime.
• Support the Director of Maintenance in planning and executing capital projects and new line installations.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with contractors and external partners.
• Review weekly/monthly KPIs to develop action plans for performance improvement.
• Maintain and evaluate the physical condition of the plant to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Provide technical leadership in molding and packaging processes across the organization.
• Conduct root cause analyses to resolve recurring production issues and enhance plant efficiency.
• Collaborate closely with line technicians and maintenance teams to ensure equipment is functioning at optimal levels.
• Manage molding line operations and proactively plan for changeovers.
• Implement cross-training, succession planning, and skills development programs to build bench strength and organizational agility.
• Partner with Shift Managers to assess employee performance, identify skills gaps, and align training programs accordingly.
• Mentor and support Shift Manager across all shifts to ensure operational consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Conduct performance evaluations, offer constructive feedback, and develop growth plans for direct reports.
• Support companywide initiatives through collaboration and teamwork across departments.
• Complete special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of experience in a manufacturing supervisory or management role, preferably in food or confectionery production.
• In-depth knowledge of manufacturing operations, production engineering, and plant management.
• Expertise in chocolate molding, tempering, and related processing techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to set up and dismantle manufacturing equipment.
• Experience in creating and maintaining efficient manufacturing environments.
• Broad technical understanding in mechanical, electrical, and process engineering disciplines is a plus.
• Strong presence on the production floor with a hands-on leadership approach.
